Tom Aspinall and Tommy Fury take on punch machine to see if UFC fighter can hit harder than boxer | talkSPORT

Oct 16, 2024

Tom Aspinall has gone head-to-head with Tommy Fury to see who is the ultimate hardest hitter.

Aspinall has been out of action in the octagon since he knocked out Curtis Blaydes in one minute at UFC Manchester in July.

He is the UFC's interim heavyweight champion, having also knocked out Sergei Pavlovich in the first round the fight before.

Jon Jones is the current heavyweight champion, but there have been no discussions of a fight between the pair to unify the division.

Fury, meanwhile, hasn’t been spotted in the boxing ring since his consecutive victories over Jake Paul and KSI in 2023.

He delved into the world of YouTube boxing when he fought Paul two years ago in Saudi Arabia, winning by split decision after being knocked down in round eight.

Following his win, Fury then boxed KSI in Manchester, winning by unanimous decision after having a point deducted for hitting behind the head.

Aspinall is renowned for his ruthless knockout power in the UFC. He has the shortest average fight time in Dana White’s promotion, winning eight of his nine bouts in the UFC inside the first round.

So, he decided to put his strength to the test this week on his YouTube channel against Fury.

Both men went head-to-head in a series of challenges on a punching machine to decide who was the hardest hitter.

Fury is currently taking time away from boxing after having surgery on his right hand, so both men were restricted to using their left only.

In the first challenge, the pair started with left hooks to see who would get the highest score.

Fury beat Aspinall with higher scores of 827 and 825, until the UFC fighter stepped up and clocked an 843 to win the first set.

Interestingly, it was the boxer who took the next challenge of the hardest hit using only an elbow, something Aspinall would be far more familiar with due to his MMA background.

Aspinall recorded a high score of 770, while Fury edged him with a total of 783.

Both men then went unorthodox, using their head to hit the bag and achieve scores in the 300 region.

Then, reminiscent of White’s Power Slap promotion, Apsinall outshone Fury with slaps to the bag, beating him with a high score of 764.

UFC fans are craving a fantasy fight between Aspinall and heavyweight champion Jones.

‘Bones’ defends his belt against Stipe Miocic on November 17 in the main event of UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden.

When asked if he will be able to fight Jones, amid rumours of the MMA icon retiring after his clash with Miocic, Aspinall was hopeful UFC matchmakers can get organised.

“I do hope so, but I don’t know whether It’s going to happen or not,” he said.

“It’s not up to me. I would love that fight, whether he [Jones] would love it, I don’t know, you’d have to ask Jon that question, not me.”

Miocic is the current No.8 ranked UFC heavyweight, with the likes of Blaydes, Pavlovich and Ciryl Gane residing above him.

He dropped the heavyweight belt to Francis Ngannou in his last UFC appearance, getting knocked out inside the first minute of round two.

It is believed Jones accepted the fight with Miocic to honour the legendary fighter’s career, as he is expected to retire after the bout at the age of 42.
